Why Maple Grove

Lakes, trails and the northwest metro's main street

Maple Grove is a Hennepin County suburb in the northwest Twin Cities metro and, with 70,253 people at the 2020 Census, Minnesota's 11th most populous city. It borders Dayton, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, Osseo, Plymouth and Corcoran. I-94, I-494 and I-694 meet at the Fish Lake split, U.S. 169 runs along the east side, and Highway 610 crosses the north end of the city.

The area was settled in the 1850s and got its name from its stands of maple trees, which once made it a source of maple syrup. The 1854 Pierre Bottineau House, the first wood-frame house in Maple Grove Township, now stands in Elm Creek Park Reserve. The city has grown quickly since the 1970s. Its Arbor Lakes district, built on a former gravel mining area, is now one of the region's biggest shopping and dining destinations, and Boston Scientific employs more than 3,000 people at its Maple Grove campus.

The Census numbers point to a settled, owner-occupied community: 82.3% of homes are owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied home value is $418,300, the median household income is $132,731, and 57.1% of adults hold a bachelor's degree or higher (ACS 2020–2024).

New Construction

New homes in a city that's running out of land

Maple Grove is still adding new neighborhoods, mostly on its northwest side near Elm Creek Park Reserve and Rush Creek. In an August 2026 Finance & Commerce report, a local real estate adviser called Maple Grove "a sought-after submarket for residential construction" with "not a whole lot of land left" for development.

Thomas's featured community is Fox Briar Ridge East by Donnay Homes: maintenance-free twin homes with one-level and walkout plans, close in near Bass Lake Road, Arbor Lakes and I-494, from $629,900. Other options run from Lennar townhomes at Rush Hollow to custom homes at The Ridge at Elm Creek. Next up, M/I Homes' planned 86-townhome Maple Creek project near Bass Lake Road and County Road 101 received a planning commission recommendation in August 2026 and still needs further city approvals.
